FIRST LAUNCH
The magazine, ‘The Nail – An Engineers’ Digest’ was launched on the 08th of February, 2023 at Department of Civil Engineering, University of Jaffna. The event was graced by the presence of Prof J M A Manatunge from University of Moratuwa and the academic and non-academic staff of the Department.
Premise
Current developments in Science and Technology around the globe is rapid. Choice of a career should be made when a student is well informed. The purpose of the digest, 'The Nail' is to encourage students to readd and write, scientific articles. In this direction, a quiz competition is organized to further motivate students in the quest for science knowledge.
The quiz will be from general science (not confined to any curriculum). Questions may include fields such as (not limited to) science innovations and inventions, science history, environmental science and climate change, genetics and biotechnology, science of everyday phenomena, earth and geological science, astrophysics and space exploration, forensic and criminal science, energy and renewable sources, robotics and artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, marine and ocean science etc.
The first phase of the quiz is a selection round. Four (04) students above the age of 14 and under the age of 19 shall form a group (can be of any combination), with the help of an advisor (School Teacher). A maximum of three team can participate from a school. The selection round is a Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) paper, which will have to be answered as a team, within 2 hours, in a selected centre (will be informed to respective entries). 20 teams in total will be selected from the selection round who will then proceed to the Live Quiz (with buzzers) at university of Jaffna (Kailasapathy Auditorium).
