It gives me great pleasure to extend my warmest congratulations to the Department of Civil Engineering and the Civil and Environmental Engineering Society (CEES) of University of Jaffna on the occasion of the <\/span>Second Undergraduate Research Symposium \u2013 2025<\/span>. This event marks a significant milestone, following the success of the inaugural symposium held in 2018, and reflects the continued commitment of our staff and students to cultivating a vibrant culture of research and innovation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

The University of Jaffna is steadfast in its mission to advance knowledge, nurture creativity and contribute meaningfully to national development. Research\u2014both fundamental and applied\u2014remains at the heart of this mission. I am proud to note that our students and staff engage in diverse and impactful inquiries that address real-world engineering challenges, providing solutions that benefit not only the academic community but also society at large. This symposium provides an invaluable platform for our undergraduates to present their research findings, exchange ideas, and engage with peers, academics, and industry professionals. Such interactions are vital in broadening perspectives, inspiring innovation, and developing the skills and confidence needed for future careers.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

I also take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the organizers, faculty members, and students whose dedication has made this symposium a reality, as well as to the industry partners and sponsors for their generous support. This symposium gives undergraduate students a chance to present their important work, share fresh ideas, and engage in meaningful discussions across many engineering fields. Undergraduate research is crucial to engineering education. It helps students apply what they learn in class to real-world problems, promotes critical thinking, and fosters a spirit of inquiry that's key for both academic and professional success. <\/span><\/p>

I want to congratulate all the student researchers for their hard work and creativity. I also wish to thank our staff, and sponsors for their continuous support and guidance extended to our students. The society along with the Department of Civil Engineering successfully hosted its 1<\/span>st<\/sup><\/span> Symposium in 2018, which laid the foundation for a platform of scholarly exchange and professional collaboration. Today, we gather once again for the 2<\/span>nd<\/sup><\/span> Symposium in 2025, marking a renewed commitment to fostering research, innovation, and sustainable practices in civil engineering. The theme of this year\u2019s symposium is both timely and significant. Civil engineering plays a crucial role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, and the need for resilient and sustainable infrastructure. By bringing together researchers, professionals, and students, this symposium provides a valuable opportunity to share knowledge, discuss innovations, and explore solutions that contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.<\/span><\/p>
